The Ask

Frankie Said Meow approached us for a limited-edition t-shirt release. Their objective was to eliminate inventory risk and large upfront cost while delivering a great shirt to their customers.

The Solution

We implemented a Presale Model. This strategy uses a specific sequence of digital proofing, physical sampling, financial scaling, and timely production. It ensures zero waste without cutting corners on the final product.

Pre-Production & Proofing

Before we considered sampling, we settled the foundation of the project.

FSM selected their canvas: a black Comfort Colors Garment Dyed heavyweight tee.

We settled on the ink: a custom-mixed water-based white that would optimize printability while maintaining a soft hand feel on the heavyweight fabric.

In tandem with the above, Cracked Ego went over the artwork and converted it to a vector(Ai) format. This step is critical; it allows for size adjustments without any loss in file quality. We prepared the color separation and generated a digital proof to confirm placement.

Sampling

With the garment and design finalized, one variable remained: the visual impact of the print.

We proposed two finish options for the final run:

  • Vintage: One pass of white ink. (Soft, faded).

  • Bright White: Two passes of white ink. (Opaque, crisp).

We invoiced for samples of both. When they placed the production order, any sampling charges would be deducted from their final invoice.

FSM received the physical garments to compare the two specific techniques. They reviewed the prints and selected Bright White. They did not guess what their customers would receive; they verified it.

Finances

We provided a transparent pricing structure:

  • Low Volume: Higher cost per unit.

  • High Volume: Lower cost per unit.

This allowed FSM to calculate margins in real-time. As their customers purchased more units during the presale window, FSM’s production cost decreased. They held control of their margins from the start.

Logistics & Fulfillment

When the sales window closed, FSM provided the final size breakdown.

We printed exactly what was ordered. No guesses. No waste. We packed the bulk order and shipped within 10 business days.

The Result

Frankie Said Meow was able to hold a financially sound and well-executed pre-sale while delivering a superior product to their customers.

  • Upfront Cost: $0

  • Unsold Inventory: 0 Units

  • Product Quality: Verified

Thanks to FSM for the opportunity to print your awesome artwork!
